What is a top horror game aside from Blood?

What is a top bloodite horror- themed game aside from Blood?
I myself go for immersion and atmosphere, not gore. A good litmus test for me is if I actually scream while playing (which I certainly did for the games below)

Hard to say which is my all- time fave, but a few stand out:

Alan Wake. Immersive as F.And very disturbing

Amnesia the Dark Descent (Ditto)

Condemned (the creepy mannequin scene is forever seared into my hapless soul)

Some other favorites:

Vampire the masquerade: bloodlines. Not that much horror game but has horror elements and parts to it. One of the best dialogue I’ve ever seen.

System Shock 2. One of ny favorite games of all time. Fantastic writing and atmosphere. Paranoia!

Dead Space. Sort of more gritty version of SS2. Great audio design.

Manhunt's dark and nihilistic atmosphere is second to none. The whole 8MM&VHS art style is unique.

It's a masterpiece. I play through it once a year.

Yeah Umnir..not horror but an all time masterpiece for dialogue and story. I prefer playing it as a shizo Malkavian. Along these lines (pic is not me btw)

I have not played many of the games you mention, so thx for the suggestions!! I have some of em in the big box collection but I will likely need ports for them to work on my current system with win 10 (98 rig Hd died an ignominous death.)
Silent hill sounds very tempting, as does the Darkness and the Undying

Not really. All these games run on W10.
Except The Darkness I & Condemned 2 which are console exclusives.

Uhh...noo...
I somehow feel I committed a major faux pas. Will try it then.
But...I only have a win 10 rig (and retro rig win 98, with HD no longer among the living). And on steam, sys reqs tell me "Microsoft® Windows® 2000/XP Only"
I also never played a console game (except for last of us, on a colleagues ps3)
..Will check for a port

You can play Manhunt on W10. You just need a patch that fixes some issues.

Manhunt was designed for XP, that doesn't mean it won't work on newer systems.

I only started getting into retro gaming around 2019 .So I have a lotta catching up to do for retro stuff, and always appreciate Advice on games I missed.

Umnir: Yeah,System shock 2 is very atmospheric and creepy. Loking forward to system shock 1 remake (I cannot get drawn into the DOS original or the version that was enhanced by nightdive...)

Prey (2017) - another game in the vein of System Shock, but less action-oriented than Dead Space and Bioshock. I second the Dead Space recommendation.

FEAR - where Blood 2 failed, Monolith created another game about shooting gas mask mooks in office environments, and this time it was actually good.

Control, while not a horror game, has its tense moments, especially in the Alan Wake crossover DLC.

Super Castlevania IV - not a big fan of 8/16-bit era gaming, but the artstyle and dark tone of SC4 stand out for any period.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - fun, creepy action-adventure if you don't mind the tedious beginning chapters and QTEs. There's a sequel, LoS2, that transplants the setting to the near-future, but it came out inferior and unfinished. Sounds familiar?

Condemned - one of my favorite survival horrors, just the right mix of combat and suspense. Never tried the sequel, maybe I'll look for a copy on PS3.

Undying - great ideas with poor execution, in my opinion. Cool setting and story, but clunky with confusing and sprawling level design. Still definitely worth checking out if you're into this genre.

Yeah, Prey 2017 was a very stressful game for me ...which is how masochist lil ' me likes it!
FEAR...did not yet play the original one (only Fear 2, which was quite good, but Fear 3 was sucky (for me) and I never finished it)
My to-play list should keep me busy after my Summer gigs are over and I prepare to hibernate in Quebec.
