Blood: Refreshed Supply

Post by patho » Fri Oct 03, 2025 7:15 pm

I don't believe it, but this time Nightdive Studios is developing a port using the original source code. I've always wanted to play Blood on a console :)

I'm a little skeptical because of the low quality of the previous port, but maybe they can pull it off this time.

I think it's great that it's getting a release that will work on consoles and therefore hopefully reach new people. I hope the inclusion of the two addons will encourage people to go and take a look at the great library of user addons that have been painstakingly (MapEdit doesnt seem so user friendly!) crafted over the years. It would be great if Nightdive included some user-friendly download/install UI for it too.

The sour point for a lot of people (for example in the reveal trailers comments section) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFjJU5lf2K0 seems to be that owners of Fresh Supply hoped for it to be a free upgrade for them, or a significant discount (I think it's currently -66% for them). I can understand that.

Also, and this is veering into speculation now. I'm not sure why Nightdive created Fresh Supply if they had an original source code version in the works. Perhaps some behind the scenes deal for them to publish something in X years to keep the name rights?

I disagree, XMAPEDIT is easy to use. Of course you have to get used to it, but you have to do that with all level editors.

Yes, that would be cool, especially if they implement the ability to publish maps and addons on the console.

That's something I can't understand. This is the first port that's actually based on the original source code. So I think the price is justified.

Quite simply, they didn't have it at the time.
Fresh Supply only involved Atari, who, as far as I know, only owned the publishing rights.

Atari and Warner Bros. Entertainment are involved in Refreshed Supply. Warner Bros. Entertainment owns the rights to the source code.

I'll give it a chance and hope for the accurate port we deserve as fans.

Does anyone know if there will be multiplayer?

Blood: Refreshed Supply has been released and I've played through it on the Xbox Series X and I think it's great. I was very critical of Fresh Supply, like many other Bloodites, because of its largely inaccurate gameplay. A port with inaccurate gameplay is worthless.

Why would anyone play something that plays worse than the original?

But Refreshed Supply is different, the gameplay is 100% accurate except for 4 minor issues.

1. I once had no enemies in E3M3 and had to restart the episode.
2. In a very few places, the death animations of some enemies aren't quite right.
3. Sometimes the quotes are a little delayed.
4. And I can't unlock the achievement Maranax MaranAAAHHHHHH. Perhaps that's because I had to play offline on the first day of release due to server problems.

But I assume that this will be fixed.

The gameplay on the Xbox Series X feels just like playing the original game on my PC. The movement and feedback are absolutely accurate, as is the level design. I've always wanted to be able to play my favorite game on consoles and Nightdive Studios has made it possible.

They made everything right again.

Refreshed Supply is receiving extremely harsh criticism on STEAM and GOG. Ironically, Fresh Supply, the clearly inferior port, is rated higher.
The first negative reviews were written just minutes after Refreshed Supply was released.

What did those who criticize it so harshly expect?

The gameplay is accurate, there are console ports, and there's additional content.
